Themselves, with their respective families had rented this awesome, luxurious seven bed-roomed Castle on three storeys with a high tower exceeding the top, opening up a breathtaking view of the rolling Tuscan countryside for the entire week. The week that would leave a beautiful unforgettable memory printed in their minds for the most important day of their lives.... their wedding!

The Bride was in her room getting the final touches done to her, already wearing her beautiful long satin, beaded bodice dress with her long blonde hair left loose on her shoulders and a glittery hair-band across her head, absolutely and simply beautiful. Her little daughter of two years, a pretty blonde, blue eyed girl dressed in a taffeta ,tulle blue dress and very proud of her role in this wedding in Italy with Mom and Dad being the King and Queen of the beautiful Castle and her, the little princess.

The Bride-to-be's sister in law, a professional wedding photographer was busy taking shots of the preparation. Everything was ready to go and the bride was admiring the floral bouquet with her chosen flowers, roses, peonies and tulips that the florist had just delivered, whilst her little girl had already taken the basket with the rose petals that she was going to carry.

1) How did the idea come to mind to have your wedding in Italy?

We researched Wedding Planners in Tuscany & Umbria on the internet, emailed about 6 different providers, received replies back from 4 and chose two of those 4. We then travelled to Italy and met the Planners in Tuscany & Umbria who then showed us 5 or 6 different venues.

2) Why did you choose Italy and not another destination?

We have both travelled expensively and both feel that Italy and the Italian people offer the warmest welcome, the most fantastic food and the most beautiful old settings to be found anywhere in the world.

3) What where your major initial doubts in deciding to have your wedding in Italy?

The language-barrier was an initial concern as we do not speak italian but Fabrizio Mengasini (Added my surname) put us at ease very quickly as he speaks excellent english. We were also worried about sourcing the various elements of the wedding, a venue, food, music and so on, but again, Fabrizio could not have been more helpful.

4) Once arrived in Italy for the venue inspection, did you find what you were looking for, more or less?

Yes. Neither of us had any fixed ideas on what we were looking for and we were open to the idea of a castle or villa in the countryside and also a small town. In the end, as soon as we saw Orvieto, we realised that it was perfect in many ways - small enough for all guests to feel comfortable and for older guests to be able to walk around in comfort, and large enough to keep guests interested and entertained, and also to allow guests to have private time away from the other guests attending the wedding. Orvieto was prefect - not too small, not too big, and with plenty of history, restaurants, and entertainment to keep everyone happy.

5) What were the points that you mostly analyzed in the choice of your venues?

As with 4 above, it was a matter of balancing the romance of the setting with the practicalities of keeping all guests happy. Orvieto ticked more boxes than any other venue and looking back, we are very happy that we made the correct choice.

6) How many venues did you see before making your choice?
5 or 6.

7) How did your friends, family and relatives react to your choice of having a destination wedding and in what percentage did this effect, more or less in the confirmation of the wedding invites?

At the time, in 2008/09, the recession had not really begun to affect most people. We deliberately issued the invitations in November 2008 for our wedding in July 2009 with an RSVP date at the end of January 2009 so that guests could take time over the Christmas period to discuss the possibility of making it part of their annual holiday. Many guests used the wedding as a starting or finishing point for their holiday and others came for 3 to 5 days, spending all that time in Orvieto. The general feedback that we received was uniformly positive, with all guests really loving the town, the history, the food and the people. We had around 137 guests and might have lost 10-20 if we were to do it again in 2011 due to the recession but most of our guests tell us that they would go again tomorrow if there was a wedding there. It was in most of their experiences a unique weekend with a great holiday atmosphere. When guests go away to a wedding, it forces all to be there well before the wedding day and also encourages them to stay well after the wedding day so it leads to a sense that all guests are on a long-anticipated holiday. Sometimes when weddings are at home, guests arrive at the las minute and leave straight after the wedding. A destination wedding turned, for us, into an extended holiday for all of us.

8) Would you repeat it?
Absolutely! It was a great experience.

9) Please write three lines of the most beautiful memories you have of your wedding day.
Our wedding day was dramatic - we were supposed to eat outdoors on a terrace but unfortunately, thunder and lightning stuck during our ceremony and when we left the church, within 5 minutes, heavy rain started to fall. This was a very rare occurance and was initially disappointing as we had planned to have our reception on an outdoor terrace. However, despite the weather being against us, although the sun did come out after about an hour and it stayed dry after that, Fabrizio dealt with the stress of the unusual storm with a calm and confident manner. Once it became clear earlier that day that a short but heavy shower of rain was a strong possibility later that afternoon and evening, Fabrizio and our own Plan B swung into action then and Fabrizio and the restaurant proprietor quickly arranged for all table settings to be moved indoors before the storm. The venue was absolutely beautiful, both outdoors and indoors and the guests were oblivious to the fact that we were supposed to eat outdoors as we had kept that a secret!
Many guests fondly recall the drama of the weather that day but all had the opportunity to enjoy eating outdoors both before the wedding day and for the remainder of their stay.

About music, we chose to have 6 musicians, a spanish guitarist, a flautist, a trumpet player, a cellist, a violinist and an pianist, which added immeasurably to the wedding ceremony itself and to the reception - they played at both.

The final memory is of the warmth of the local people, our florist, our photographer, the restaurant owner. They all, together with our wonderful wedding planner, Fabrizio, worked together in a co-operative way, and always in a good-humoured way to ensure that the day was a very, very happy and memorable one.

(We are a chocolate company and only produce artisan truffles, OREOS and pretzels). Wedding cake trends have transitioned from traditional to the extreme. Cake design trends are becoming more personalized.

Couples are fusing personal traits, interests and tastes to influence their wedding cake designs and flavor. The design behind the cake usually commands conversation. When a couple creates a cake design based on personal interests, guests will always remember the cake as a main focus of the celebration!

5. What, in your opinion should the wedding couple avoid when choosing their cake and decor?

When choosing their wedding cake and decor, a couple should keep their original vision a focus. It is too easy to become distracted with all the creative options. Always keep in mind the amount of money you have to spend and look for the best options within that budget.

6. What do you suggest for wedding favours?

Shocolaate offers beautiful options for wedding favors. One of our more popular options is the four-box truffle topping a place setting! When the guest sits down at the table, they are greeted with a beautifully decorated box. They know the box is for them and them alone!

7. Are there any particular colours, both for the product as for the packaging that one should avoid for next year and instead which do you suggest?

We suggest brides stay with colors that flow with their original core color scheme. Abstract, complementary colors may be used as finishing touches to make the whole color story POP! Color sets a mood visually when you walk into the reception area. Height of color can also make the over-all visual presentation an incredible experience!

1. Tell me about yourself.

I am Marco Miglianti, a wedding photographer, strange isn't it? Photographers are usually embarrassed to only photograph weddings, but I really like doing this, I like the air that you breathe at weddings, the emotions that you and others feel, the atmosphere.
A 2010 with great satisfactions, both personal and for the Company as a whole, we were nominated as Photographer of the year in 2010 for the prestigious ANFM (national association of wedding photographers); at the beginning of this year, when I entered this contest.

Other wonderful satisfactions arrived in the year 2010: AGWPJA (a fine art photojournalistic approach to wedding photography), they inserted me in the list of the best photographers in the world for 2010, to be precise at the 20th place and the prestigious WPJA put me in the annual classification as the 51st photographer in the world.

2. When did you start to photograph destination weddings in Italy, and your first impressions?
I started not so long ago, It's been 3 years now, I really like them, foreigners are very happy people and know how to live the wedding day ceremony partying and becoming emotional.

3. Which are the important aspects of a wedding in Italy that you like highlighting?
I like all the minimal details, the emotions, the venues ...everything, I like the idea of trying to create a photo-service that story-tells the wedding to all who were present but also to those who weren't.

4. Are there any different aspects that you have improved on after each service that you have done?
Maybe the tranquility in the approach to the actual wedding day, I'm no longer afraid to make mistakes on the important photographs .... At the end, all the photos of that day are important.

5. Which errors have you noticed on behalf of the wedding couple that have had a negative influence on your photo-shoot service?
The choice of the Venue, the uncured illumination or the time-planning of the wedding day that forces the couple to not enjoy their day.

Hi everyone, I'd like to share my visit to the best Castle for your
wedding in Italy with all of you. This castle is a real dream for your
wedding in Italy, it's a full stone castle built in the middle-ages
and has a lot of possibilities both inside and outside.
You could have the cocktail welcome reception outside in the garden
and then move inside the courtyard (always open air). Adjacent to the
courtyard's, is another room (you can see this room from the courtyard
because there is glass doors/windows dividing them). In this room you
could dance and have your party, which is nice because the people that
want to just chat and relax can do so without loud music but at the
same time they can watch the others having fun. In case of rain, you
could hold all your reception inside as you have this covered
courtyard and the rooms inside at your disposal.
Regarding the celebration you have two possibilities.
You can have the celebration in the garden, it's very beautiful and has the Castle as your background scenario and then just 10 meters away you can organize the welcome cocktail.

Walking inside the castle we also visited the terrace. This terrace is
just over the courtyard photo numbers.... and there is a big window
where you have a beautiful view of Florence, maybe perfect for a blessing.

If you decide to have a wedding ceremony in a church, there is a
lovely church not far from the castle and just across the
street there is a bar with beautiful terrace, overlooking Florence's
skyline. As I was there, I was thinking (just an idea) to organize a
little cocktail drink on this terrace where after the wedding ceremony
you can receive greetings from your guests, then they can move on to
the castle for the cocktail, and you both with your photographer can
follow them after taking a few photo shoots.

This magnificent Castle crowning a quaint little Tuscan town dates back to the 13th Century and has a distinctive tower that is one of the defining features of the Villa. The property is rich in history and some parts of the property date back to the Etruscan times. At the top of the driveway through the arched, dramatically lit tunnel you commence your entrance into the past.

The tunnel leads you into an ancient amphitheatre, which is one of the many terraces of the Villa with its nearby charming private swimming pool made of travertine stones, deriving from an ancient roman bridge dismantled in North Africa. The property has several furnished outside areas where you can relax and enjoy the captivating views of olive groves, oak woods, the Mountain and the Umbrian Hills.

Inside the villa the antique furniture, paintings and magnificent features have been preserved by the owners who have added modern amenities to provide first class comfortable and informal accommodation with style. The central part of the villa is the 13th Century tower which accommodates five rooms with amazing high ceilings. After a few centuries the tower was complemented by an adjacent villa which was recently restored by the present owner following the true Tuscan tradition with terracotta floors and shuttered windows.

The surrounding natural woodland gardens have terraced walking paths and the gardens with meticulously cured lawns have olive and lemon trees every now and again with pretty gravel paths around. The flower beds are filled with roses, irises, geraniums and lavender. There is a raised pergola which is partially shaded and seats approximately 14 people. The gravel courtyard which is lined with cypress trees also has a 14 seating dining area with a hammock. The town, only a few minutes' walk from the castle offers you the possibility to have everything you need at your disposal.

Confetti are the fruit of an antique tradition, the first finding on the use of confetti for celebrating weddings, goes back to the year 447 A.D., in fact we find this mentioned in scripts regarding the rich Roman family “Fabi”. This tradition therefore, was created by the Romans, who celebrated reunions and births with the use of confetti, obviously the confetti of those days were not produced with the same ingredients, in fact, instead of sugar they used honey.

From the year 1500, confetti became the ideal conclusion of every big expensive get-together of high prestige and it was in fact a common procedure to offer the confetti to the most illustrated guests.

Confetti have always been considered very auspicious, in the past centuries they were the most prestigious sweets and therefore were reserved for the important ceremonies, like the higher rank weddings.

In general, the tradition has it that the confetti are placed in a separate bag inside the confetti box with the number of confetti ranging from 3 to 5; usually in the event of a wedding, the number of confetti chosen is 5 for it’s symbolic reason, happiness, wealth, longevity, fertility and health.

Generally, each event is associated with confetti of a different colour: Baptism (blue or pink), holy communion and confirmation (white), university degree (red), marriage (white), anniversary (gold, silver, etc, depending on the anniversary that is celebrated).

The classic confetti for a wedding is an almond in white sugared coating: this symbolizes the union of the couple (the two halves are held together by the almond).

Umbrian Hillside is a wonderful sea of green. A land whose rolling hills are dotted with castles, fortresses and watchtowers, well-preserved hill towns produce world-renowned handmade ceramics, and a tasteful wine.
Umbria is exactly in the centre of Italy, north of Rome, east of Tuscany, west of Marches. In this scenery there is a winery company close to Orvieto, one of the top-quality wine producer in Umbria and a wonderful Villa to rent surrounded by vineyards. The villa with his swimming-pool and ancient furniture can accommodate up to 10 people in 5 bedrooms.

The villa is a property of the wine estate that covers 140 beautiful acres where it is also located a deconsecrated church to hold the weddings. In this exclusive setting a couple of Norwegian people helped by Fabrizio Mengasini, owner of the www.italyprestige.com held their wedding with 79 guests all arrived from Norway, somebody from Rome with helicopter too. When the bride and groom arrived in March 08 to have their wedding inspection at the venue their eyes immediately lightened and they said: “this is our wedding venue”. We visited the deconsecrated church, the Villa, walked in the vineyards and of course a visit in the winery to see and taste wine.

The couple wanted for their wedding a special focus on music and Italian food. The couple and their parents rented the villa and the guests slept in villas around and in hotels in the historic centre of Orvieto town. The morning of the events the sky was cloudy and the groom with a gold coloured closed umbrella was already in front of the church to welcome the guests. After the hairdresser finished her work with the bride a glass of ‘spumante’ is just some to give energy for the day.

The florist delivered the light violet roses bouquet and the old Alfa Romeo Duetto Cabriolet dated 1974 left the Villa to the church. All the guests were inside listening to classic music playing by a string quartet when the bride arrived in front of the church just closed the vineyard. The ceremony was long about 50 minutes with soprano and organ music. After the celebration all the guests went outside in the garden with the gorgeous view of Umbrian hillsides to have the cocktail with typical Umbrian food.

That’s the moment that the bride and the groom left the church by the Alfa Romeo and reached the Villa to change the dress (the groom). After the cocktail the couple chose to have a long meal composed by three different first courses like ‘Rise with yellow pumpkin’, ‘Ravioli filled with mozzarella cheese and spinach’, ‘Strengozzi -handmade pasta- with Porcini mushrooms and truffle’, and a delicious ice cream with chocolate. Each single course was accompanied by different kinds of Wine depending on the food. Wine began to have its effect and there was a familiar atmosphere with Italian music songs by Sonia. After the first courses and ice cream at about 4.00 P.M. all the guests have been invited to a wine tasting tour. Just 5 minutes walk and then the visit of the vinery in the tuff caves, all accompanied by a sparkling wine tasting.

When the guests went back to the reception room the bride and groom decided that the man had to change the table seats. They prepared two table seating cards, one for the first courses and one for the second course. In this way the woman seated at the same table of first courses, but they found near them other men talking. The waiter started to serve the second courses, composed by a delicious piece of wild boar served with blueberry and “Leccarda” Pheasant. To drink red wine in Magnum bottles. All the wine was served by the waiters. The second course finished and it was an occasion to stand up a little bit, but also to talk with everybody before the three floors eggnog and fruits wedding cake arrived in the room for the first cut and the party could start with DJVincenzo. It was a long wedding day immersed in the vineyard and of course in the wine too.

Dear Friend,

today I’ve been to visit an Historic palace in a beautiful town in Umbria. The Palace is in the historic centre and has got a beautiful main entrance. The large walls give you immediately an atmosphere of importance at this building. As generally old palace a corridor where before use to get in carry bring you at different rooms in each side with a lot of doors. At the end of the corridor a large terrace with a gorgeous view of umbrian hillsides bring you to the “Granaio” a space where the owner used to storage grain. Now restored it could be used as a wonderful place where to welcome your guests for the cocktail.

A surprise it was when from a step we walked down. A wonderful cantine with a lot of rooms where is possible to hold also a little music party or just as a tour.

The beauty at the firts floor where a big frescoed room with red and white pavment can holt up to 80/90 people, but could be perfect also for less people setting-up a gorgeous imperial table.

At the same floor doors opens in three suite with different colours and different style. Walking in there seems to be a prince.
